Recycling

The Township of Millburn operates a Single Stream recycling program. Items placed at the curb must be clean and dry, and secured in clearly marked recycling bins. Grocery bags are not acceptable. Single Stream Recycling stickers are available for residents to pick up at the Department of Public Works and Town Hall.

Single Stream recycling allows for the collection of all recyclable materials on the same day, in the same container.

Make sure plastic products are clean before recycling
Plastic bags may be recycled at retail stores with collection bins. Plastic grocery and produce sacks are commonly placed in recycle bins. These bags can shut down an entire recycling plant and should be kept out of our recycling bins.

Aluminum Cans (Soup, Veggie, Coffee Cans, etc.)

Paper/Cardboard
Brown paper bags

Please remember to place all recycling in a separate, clearly marked recycling container or in a clear plastic bag.

Items Accepted at the Town Yard

Polystyrene (Styrofoam)
The Department of Public Works (DPW) Recycling Center houses a large container clearly marked for the collection of select polystyrene. Residents should bring their polystyrene to the Recycling Center at 345 Essex Street during operating hours: Monday-Friday 8:30am- 2:30pm and Saturday 8:00am- 12pm. For this recycling program, all polystyrene MUST BE WHITE, CLEAN and DRY. Not accepted are egg containers, any polystyrene that is not white, has tape, stickers or cardboard attached or is wrapped in plastic or paper. Dirty or wet polystyrene and packing peanuts will not be accepted.
