On September 17th the Millburn Township Committee adopted Ordinance No. 2509-18 establishing requirements for the keeping of chickens. Residents interested in keeping chickens must complete the following application. The application fee is $100, and an inspection fee in the amount of $65 must be submitted with the application. A survey with a drawing or diagram depicting the placement of the chicken coop and enclosure must accompany the application. Included in the application is a checklist to be initialed by applicants, including but not limited to stipulations on the number of chickens allowed, the size and location of chicken coops, and the protection of feed from rodents.
Residents currently keeping chickens must abide by the terms of this ordinance and complete a permit application that will bring them into compliance for 2019. Permits must be renewed annually in the month of December with the Health Department for a permit commencing on January 1st. Permits expire and become invalid on December 31st of each year.
