NJ TRANSIT ENHANCES CLEANING EFFORTS AT NEWARK PENN STATION, WILL CLOSE FROM 11 PM to 4:30 AM

AMTRAK ADJUSTS NEW YORK PENN STATION HOURS TO ENHANCE CLEANING, WILL CLOSE AMTRAK CONCOURSE AT 12 AM, NJ TRANSIT CONCOURSE AT 1 AM, AND WILL REOPEN FULL AT 5AM

NJ TRANSIT and Amtrak Concourses will close overnight on a daily basis starting Sunday, May 3, 2020. For more information see below or by clicking here.

In conjunction with NJ TRANSIT’s efforts to combat the spread of COVID-19, it is essential for our customers and employees to practice social distancing by adhering to Governor Murphy’s Executive Order 125 and the CDC’s preventative steps for COVID-19.

Per Governor Murphy’s Executive Order 125 requiring all personnel and customers on New Jersey Transit vehicles to wear face coverings, among other requirements, strengthening NJ TRANSIT’s efforts to protect the public during the COVID-19 pandemic, please be advised that:

NJ TRANSIT REQUIRES ALL RIDERS TO WEAR A FACE COVERING.

NJ TRANSIT WORKERS AUTHORIZED TO LIMIT PASSENGER OCCUPANCY TO 50% OF THE VEHICLE’S MAXIMUM CAPACITY ON ALL TRAINS, BUSES AND LIGHT RAIL LINES.

CUSTOMERS SHOULD BE USING NJ TRANSIT SERVICES FOR ESSENTIAL TRAVEL ONLY. 

NJ Transit Essential Service Bus Schedule

BEGINNING MONDAY, APRIL 20 NJ TRANSIT IS RUNNING SPECIAL “ESSENTIAL SERVICE” TO ADD CAPACITY AND IMPROVE SOCIAL DISTANCTING FOR ESSENTIAL TRAVEL. Special “ESSENTIAL SERVICE” bus service schedules maybe be found on NJ TRANSIT’s website by clicking here.

NJ Transit Face Coverings

All NJ Transit riders are required to wear a face covering. Riders should be using NJ Transit services for essential travel only. Please visit the CDC link below on proper face covering use:

NJ Transit Limited Occupancy

NJ Transit is limiting the number of riders per vehicle down to 50% of maximum occupancy, to allow for proper social distancing. If a vehicle is too crowded for proper social distancing, customers are encouraged to wait for the next scheduled ride.

NJ Transit Waiting Rooms

All station waiting rooms will be temporarily closed system wide until further notice due to community-health precautions surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic.

NJ TRANSIT Ticket Sales 

In order to avoid further contact, ticket sales will not be available at ticket windows. Instead, tickets may be purchased through the NJ Transit Mobile App or through ticket vending machines.

North Jersey Rail Service Operates on Weekend Schedule

  • Beginning Friday, March 20, NJ TRANSIT’s rail lines, with the exception of the Atlantic City Rail Line (ACRL), will operate on a weekend schedule with slight modifications. 
  • Customers are strongly encouraged to sign up for My Transit alerts and activate push notifications on the mobile app to receive the latest status of the system.

NJ TRANSIT is running special weekday BUS service beginning Monday, March 23rd, 2020 and requesting travel for ESSENTIAL PURPOSES ONLY.

Ticket Refunds

  • NJ Transit is offering Refunds for the following ticket types.
    • 10-Trip Tickets
    • Monthly/Weekly Passes
  • Refund requests may be done with ticket sellers or by mailing your request to:
    • Rail Refund Dept.
      • NJ Transit
      • One Penn Plaza East
      • Newark, NJ 07105-2246
    • Identification is required when refunding with ticket sellers.
    • Refund checks may take up to six weeks to receive, if purchased by cash or debit cards.
    • Credit card refunds will be issued to customer’s credit card.
