The public is invited to drop off expired or unused tablets, capsules, patches, pet medications and other solid forms of prescription medications at Millburn Township’s permanent prescription drug collection site located in the lobby of the Millburn Police Department Headquarters at 435 Essex Street. The collection site is open to the public 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.
All collected medications are brought to and disposed of at a licensed facility.
Unused or expired prescription medications are a public safety issue, leading to accidental poisoning, overdose, and abuse. Pharmaceutical drugs can be just as dangerous as street drugs when taken without a prescription r a doctor’s supervision. If not properly disposed of unused prescription drugs thrown in the trash can be retrieved and abused or illegally sold. Unused drugs that are flushed contaminate the water supply. Proper disposal of unused drugs saves lives and protects the environment. Take-back programs are the best way to dispose of old drugs.
Vaping devices and cartridges are accepted provided lithium batteries are removed. Please note that liquids (including intravenous solutions), syringes and other sharps and illegal drugs will NOT be accepted.
