Mayor's Message 9/4

Good afternoon Millburn Township Residents, today is Friday, September 4, 2020.

Essex County is reporting 20,187 residents having tested positive for COVID-19. There are currently 175 residents of Millburn Township who have tested positive for COVID-19. The confirmed cases in Millburn are cumulative and residents are not removed from this count once they recover.  At times these numbers can change when contact tracing is complete and it is verified that a positive result should be counted in another community or county. 

 Please keep in mind the following important items;

  • Under the 14-day quarantine travel advisory announced by the Governors of New Jersey, New York and Connecticut, individuals traveling to or returning to New Jersey from states with increasing rates of COVID-19 are advised to self-quarantine for 14 days. This includes travel by train, bus, car, plane and any other method of transportation.

The 14-day quarantine travel advisory applies to travel from certain states identified as those that have a positive COVID-19 test rate higher than 10 per 100,000 residents or have a 10% or higher positivity rate over a seven-day rolling average.

  • The Millburn Police Department will hold an information session on policies, training and other topics Wednesday, September 9 at 7:00pm via ZOOM.  Please find more information on the Township’s website. https://twp.millburn.nj.us/CivicAlerts.aspx?AID=944

  • On September 24, COVID testing by Essex County will be conducted in Lot 7.  We are announcing the date so anyone interested can mark their calendar.  This also provides advanced notice that the lot will be closed that day for any users.  As soon as the Township receives more details, it will be shared with our residents.

Good afternoon Millburn Township Residents, today is Friday, September 11, 2020.

We all take a moment to acknowledge those individuals that lost their lives on September 11th.  We honor their memory and the sacrifices of the nearly 3000 souls that we lost 19 years ago.

May we always remember their lives, their contributions and all the people they touched.

  • A reminder to residents that there will be several road closures on Sunday morning due to the Township’s inaugural “Tour de Millburn”.   Millburn Avenue, between Spring Street and the Lot 5 entrance will be closed at 7:30am for participant set up.   Millburn Avenue will close temporarily as each ride cruises toward Whittingham Terrace.  Areas of the South Mountain neighborhood will begin closing at 8:15am in preparation for the 9:00am closed course, which is expected to take approximately 45 minutes.  We appreciate everyone’s patience and cooperation to help ensure a safe and successful community event.  

Everyone should use extra caution driving around town on Sunday morning, 9/13.  There will be many bike riders on our roads.  Please share the road, be alert and drive carefully.

  • On September 24, COVID testing by Essex County will be conducted in Lot 7, Millburn Train Station.  When we get closer to the date, Essex County will share the flyer for the testing which will be disseminated by the Township.  The testing will be the same as the previous operation in Lot 7 earlier this year.

The confirmed cases in Millburn are cumulative and residents are not removed from this count once they recover.  At times these numbers can change when contact tracing is complete and it is verified that a positive result should be counted in another community or county.

  • It is anticipated that the Millburn Elementary Schools will re-open on Monday, October 5th.

Good afternoon Millburn Township Residents, today is Friday, September 25, 2020.

 Essex County is reporting 20,918 residents having tested positive for COVID-19. There are currently 177 residents of Millburn Township who have tested positive for COVID-19. The confirmed cases in Millburn are cumulative and residents are not removed from this count once they recover.  At times these numbers can change when contact tracing is complete and it is verified that a positive result should be counted in another community or county. 

 Please keep in mind the following important items;

 The November 3rd General Election is a primarily Vote by Mail Election as per Governor’s Orders.  Essex County has begun sending out a Vote By Mail Ballot to every registered voter so please check your mailbox. Once you complete your ballot, voters will have options for returning their own completed ballots to Essex County:

  1. Drop Box in front of the Milburn Township Municipal Building at 375 Millburn Avenue, Millburn (American Flag drop box is monitored by a security camera and the County will collect the ballots daily and bring them to Newark for processing)
  2. Mail the ballot via the United States Postal Service (ballots must be postmarked no later than November 3rd and be received by the County Clerk no later than 8:00pm on November 10th)
  3. Another option is to hand deliver your ballot to the Board of Elections in Newark at 465 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr Blvd.
  4. Additionally, you may hand deliver your completed Vote by Mail ballot to a poll worker at your polling location on Election Day, November 3rd from 6 AM-8 PM.  

PLEASE REMEMBER - DO NOT DETACH THE CERTIFICATION FLAP!

 The Millburn Township Senior bus is available for residents 62 and older for transportation for you to bring your completed Vote By Mail Ballot to the Millburn Town Hall Drop Box. Please call 973-564-7076 or visit HERE  for further details.  

Voters who choose to cast their vote in-person may do so on a provisional ballot (paper) only at the Township’s designated polling sites on election day.  Information will be forthcoming regarding the designated polling locations in Millburn Township. Individuals who require access to ADA-conforming voting machines may also vote at the Township’s designated polling sites on the day of the election. Milburn Township Seniors may request transportation to the Drop Box in front of Millburn Town Hall.

  • Essex County conducted a successful mobile COVID-19 testing site in Lot 7 yesterday.  A total 326 tests were administered.  
  • Main Street will remain closed beyond September 27.  The Township will be evaluating the closure on a weekly basis to determine the efficacy as the weather cools and our elementary schools (K-4) open to in person instruction on October 5.
