Blue Acres is a program run through the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection. One of the goals of the Blue Acres program is to acquire properties from willing sellers and return flood prone areas to a natural state. The program is funded by grant awards through FEMA and one criteria for successful applications is by determining a benefit cost ratio for the project. For this reason, the more willing sellers that are contiguous to create a larger natural area, the better potential for a successful application.
