Complete Streets Construction Update 8/29/2016
A Look at the Week Ahead:
Main Street has been and will remain closed until THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 1st after rush hour traffic.
Until this time please follow the detour (see below) in place. Please use caution as pedestrian and vehicular traffic patterns will change when Main Street opens. Proper signage will be posted as changes occur.
Once Main Street, between Essex St. and Millburn Ave., is open for vehicular traffic on Thursday evening, the following changes will take effect:
• No left turn from Millburn Ave. to Main St.
• No left turn from Essex St. to Main St.
• No left turn from Main St. to Essex St.
Over the next week Flanagan’s Construction will be working on the following tasks:
Striping on Main Street roadway
Pouring concrete sidewalk and curbs on Millburn Ave
Finish conduit placements on Main Street and Millburn Ave
Preparing to set basalt pavers
*Access to stores on Millburn Ave (from Dunkin Donuts to Starbucks) will periodically have limited access due to the pouring of sidewalks. If possible, please use backdoor access to stores via the Courtyard.
Work completed during the week of 8/22/2016:
Placed conduits and foundation for lighting fixtures
Poured concrete roadway on Main Street
Framed curbs and sidewalks and poured with concrete on Main Street, Essex Street and Millburn Ave
All businesses on Main Street between Essex Street and Millburn Ave are open for business during Complete Streets Construction. Businesses include:
• Fiamma Wood Fired Pizza
• 12 Islands Greek Taverna
• Charlie Brown’s
• The Coffee Mill
• Starbucks Coffee
• Millburn Cameras ASAP Photo
• Eye Q Opticians
• Soothing Zen Day Spa
Main Street Northbound: at Millburn Ave turn right and proceed east until the intersection of Essex Street (Annie Sez), turn left and proceed west on Essex Street. At third traffic light, turn right and precede north on Main Street/Old Short Hills Road.
Main Street Southbound: at Essex Street turn right and proceed west until Douglas Street. Turn left on Douglas Street (Fire Station) and proceed south to Millburn Avenue. At Millburn Avenue, turn left and proceed west until first traffic light. At first traffic light, turn night and proceed south on Main Street.
Phase 1 of Complete Streets construction is expected to last through the fall with an anticipated completion date in November. The Downtown area will remain open for business and pedestrian foot traffic during construction.
