[ARCHIVED] Township to Host Low and Moderate Income Housing Information Session

The Township Committee has determined that it would be in the interest of public discussion and understanding to present a public briefing on the subject of low and moderate income housing. This subject has come up at recent meetings of the Township Committee with members of the public asking about the origins and requirement of municipalities to comply with low and moderate income housing obligations. Also of interest has been the related topic of Builder's Remedy lawsuits brought by developers in many municipalities to compel the construction of low and moderate income housing as a component of larger developments. Accordingly, The Township Attorney, the Township Planner and the Planning Board Attorney will give an educational presentation on this topic at 7:30 PM on February 10th at Town Hall. They will discuss the origins of the obligation for each municipality to provide a reasonable opportunity for the development of such housing by virtue of NJ Supreme Court decisions, the passage of the NJ Fair Housing Act, the role and work of COAH and the current state of the law. All interested residents are invited to attend and gain a fundamental understanding of this important public policy issue.
